I’m writing you from my Uncle’s apartment in Chatham, New Jersey. I just finished eating a delicious batch of Grandma’s mac n’ cheese; one of the finest of all of the Moakler family traditions.
We had a little break in the shows this weekend so Matthew McGinn and I decided to drive a couple hours south and hang out with my Dad’s side of the family, whom I love dearly. It has been fantastic.
Last night we had the pleasure of watching “The Undertaker’s” (my uncle’s band) blow the roof off ”54 Main,” a local bar on Main Street and they were incredible. My Uncle inspires me. He gives 110% percent soul power on every word of every song, and the band was stupid good too.
Let me tell you a story about my Uncle Rob.
When I was really young, I used to watch a VHS tape of “The Undertakers” that my dad captured in the mid 80s. My favorite song on the video was “You Can’t Always Get That You Want,” which I whole-heartedly believed was one of their original songs for nearly a decade. It was also the song that my mom choose to sing to my sister and I when we would cry about not getting our way.
Anyways, I remember being 11 years old riding with my dad in his forest green 94’ Ford Explorer listening to the radio when “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” came on and I started freaking out…”UNCLE ROB’S BAND IS ON THE RADIO!!!”
My dad looked over at me in disbelief and said, “Steve, thats not Rob’s band, it’s Rolling Stones.” That was a hard day for me, but I did become a Rolling Stones fan.
My Uncle Rob is one of the greatest guys on the planet…it was magic watching him play. I get to see where I got my Mojo.
About to hit the sack over here…just wanted to share that. Matt and I are getting back on the road in the AM for a couple more shows in the northeast.
Wait, one more thing! My music is entered in a contest called Music City Mayhem which is conducted by a great Nashville radio station called Lightening100. If you have a free minute, please visit www.lightning100.com and vote anytime today (monday). It would be very much appreciated.
Lets keep it real until next time, shall we?
Yes.
