Well… What can I say? I haven’t written a blog since Father’s day. I haven’t toured since May. And I haven’t released a new record since North Korea launched the Kwangmyŏngsŏng-2 rocket (try saying that ten times fast). That was in April of 2009 for those of you haven’t been keeping up with your world news….
I don’t mean to presume that anyone cares whether or not I have fallen off the face of the earth, but in the off chance that a couple of you do, here is an update.
I have taken a break from touring this summer so that I can focus on writing songs. Why? Because it is imperative that the next time we all get together, we have some really good ones to sing and bob our heads to! Am I right, or am I right?
I knew that you would agree.
To address this matter, I have been writing a few songs a week all summer. Don’t worry, I’m getting in a little golf here and there too, but that’s beside the point. As of now, I have close to 35 new songs for the next album, and I am going to keep writing until I feel like I have 11 that I love and want to grow up with.
Now for the seemingly sad news… I know that I previously announced that I’d be going back into the studio in September, but unfortunately that will not be happening. At this point, early 2011 is a more likely prediction.
Until then, I will be playing some college shows this fall (East Coast & Southeast), and club shows are sure to continue popping up in the mix as well. I probably won’t have another formal club tour until I release my new record.
Now, if you just read that and feel bummed out, I want to apologize and thank you for eagerly awaiting new music. Please know that I am even more eager to share it with you than you are to hear it.
What? Did you just ask me to prove it?
Ok. I’m going to post a video performance one new song every week for the “Back To School Season,” this way I can get some feedback from you and you can see that I actually HAVE been working!!! Please Standby.
How did I ever end up with this job anyways?
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Big time love,
STEVE
